In other words, it believes that every person has the right to life, freedom, food, clothing, housing, education, medical care, work (and take rest from it), privacy e.t.c. For Amnesty International, human rights have to be applied to everyone, everywhere, regardless of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political opinion, wealth or nationality.
  • Amnesty International cares a lot for the freedom of political beliefs. This is why it has been trying to protect political prisoners through its campaigns. This happens mostly, through letter-writing. Its members and supporters write letters to put pressure upon any government(s) which violate political prisoners’ rights.
  • Amnesty International has also been fighting strongly against slavery and torture. Campaigns take place either through letter-writing or as on-line (electronically) petitions in order to stop torure and slavery.

Other information:

Everyone can join Amnesty International and support it in many ways. After all, the old Chinese proverb ought to be stuck in our mind: IT IS BETTER TO LIGHT A CANDLE THAN CURSE THE ENDLESS DARKNESS.
